Here are some steps to follow to help you keep the momentum going all the year through to December!

  1. Smile! Every morning you wake up smile! Believe it or not this will change your mood instantly, not matter how much you are hating on your job or life situation. I could be in the worst mood, smile and I actually feel good instantly. Evidence and research shows that smiling will give you happy feelings causing brain activity associated with smiling.

  2. Gratitude for your life Be grateful for what you have and allow yourself to be happy. We are always so focused on the stresses of life and don’t appreciate the little things. Keep a journal (or record in your mind) 3-5 points each day of things you are grateful for. It doesn’t have to be big, it could be you are grateful for your comfy bed, summer, the clean drinkable tap water, family and friends in your life, the fact that you are alive and breathing or big things if you have anything grand happen. If you have a bad day, you can look back on all the things you are grateful for in your journal.

  3. Your Goal Work out what you actually what to achieve and what your game plan is, have a strategic plan. Set your intention and make it a part of your life. If you are not thinking about your end goal, you will never get there. Think about allocating time to your end goal on a weekly basis so this can be achieved.

  4. Patience You are not going to get to your end goal over night, and thinking its going to happen in a few months is going to make you fail! Start by breaking down your goal into smaller goals for weekly objectives. Overcome the first week and work on the next. Once in a routine, you could set monthly goals, and then expect to aim for the end goal months down the track, it could even take you to December. But if you rush it, you won’t make it – be patient.

  5. Possible Goals Set a goal for the year that is achievable! Don’t set yourself up to fail and think about what you can achieve for the year. Just being optimistic about your goal will not get you there, it needs to be realistic and you need to believe you can do it. Think about why you want to achieve this goal and understand what motivates you so the goal is possible.

  6. Focus and determination Making a change is hard and its not going to happen while you are sitting in front of the TV watching Netflix. Having fun and relaxing will not get you to were you want to be! Set time for your goal and and work hard to achieve it. Understand that to make a change takes time, it will be hard and you will have to work for it. Use your willpower, stay focused, take responsibility for your actions and you will get to your end goal.

  7. Accountability Tell friends or put on social media, whatever you need to do to announce your goals so you can be accountable. Telling others will keep you on track, as you will be disappointed and frustrated I you don’t stick to your game plan after telling everyone about it. This isn’t to make you feel guilty, its to keep you honest and accountable! If you don’t want to tell the world, you could get support from like minded people through Facebook groups, friends, Meetup etc This will keep you on tract and you could asks someone to be your partner to keep you on track in your journey.

  8. Rewards Keeping focused on your goals deserves a reward! If you make it through the first month, give yourself a small reward like a facial, massage or manicure for example. Achieving your goals deserves a reward and acknowledge your achievement.

  9. Pick yourself up Don’t get discouraged if you fall of the band wagon, pick yourself up, reassess your end goal and start with small steps again. Work out what you did wrong the first time, be accountable, stay focused and work for what you want.

  10. A Healthy Lifestyle We all lead busy lives and some of us are in those situations where your whole life is about stress. Start by looking after yourself, eating healthier and cleaner foods, get some physical activity in the day – even 30-minute walk, socialize, cut back on your alcohol and get enough sleep!
